Welcome to My Blog

Welcome to my blog! I'm sure a lot of you who are reading this are people I know. More than likely, you're my dad. If you're reading this and you're not my dad though, hi! Maybe I've met you before; you're my best friend from high school, you're an old teacher, or a friend from middle school. In any of those cases, I welcome you and hope you enjoy the oddity of my personality, because, trust me, this blog might get weird.

So far, I'm not 100% sure what this blog is going to be. I believe for the most part, it will be a place for me to post about my life: stories about my friends, work, and just my daily life. However, I think sometimes I might post short fiction stories or poetry, because I like to write about things other than myself. For now though, let me tell you about myself:

I am 20 years old and getting ready to start my final semester of college at The University of Iowa in Iowa City. I feel like my life is pretty boring for a college kid. I don't go to bars very much and most of the time I'm working because I have to be able to pay rent and eat. My family consists of me, my older sister, and my dad. My mom has her own family, which I also get to be a part of. For a long time though, I didn't really feel like I belonged in that family though, so it feels weird to consider my step dad and my three step brothers as actual "family". That's something I hope will some day change, but right now, they feel like separate things.

I don't want to use this blog to post about how great my life is. It's not excellent and there's not a whole lot to brag about. I am not a perfect person. Though, I have always tried to be, which is more destructive than it is helpful. Reading this blog, you'll probably read a lot about times I have been an imperfect person. In some cases, I have gotten dealt the worst cards in the game. I'm really just not very lucky and my life has been kind of a shit show from start to finish. However, life is going pretty solidly right now and I can say for a fact that I am really happy. I don't want to write a whole lot about the past. It's called "past" for a reason; it's over and even though it still effects my life, it feels irrelevant. I am, however, working on writing a book about my past. My blog will be a place for the now.

Right now, life is really good. I am spending my summer writing: starting a blog, writing a book, and writing music. I am also trying to read a lot, and that's not going so hot, because during school I was reading three novels every three weeks and I'm slightly burnt out on it. It's nice to read a book and not feel like I have to rush to finish it. I just finished reading "Jurassic Park" though, and it was really good. Now I'm reading the novel adaptation of the Broadway musical "Dear Evan Hansen".

This summer I'm also having fun living with my boyfriend. He lives in Kansas and we met at church camp when we were in 6th grade. He's, honestly, my best friend. He moved up here just for the summer before he goes back to school and we've been having so much fun. I'll write more about him in another blog post, because he deserves more than just a paragraph in an introduction blog.

I also have a lot of amazing friends. My best friend's name is Julianna and she has always been the person I go to about everything. She is a one of a kind human being and she is one of the only people from high school that I still talk to. Next year I get to stand next to her at her wedding and be her maid of honor and I have never been more excited for a couple to get married than I am for her to marry Nathan. They both are two of the greatest people I know and I love that they're together.

I live with one of my best friends in Iowa City, Hannah. We met at work our freshman year and we've been friends ever since. I was really excited to live with her when she asked me last year to be her roommate, because I'd only ever lived with my sister or a bunch of messy boys. We have so much fun together; walking to the gas station at 1 a.m., ordering pizza, going to Cactus, etc. She's a really great person and I'm so happy to call her my friend.

I'm going to wrap up this post now because I feel the best way to get to know a person is not through one single blog post. I also don't want to write about everything in one post.

Me and Julianna in Puerto Rico

Perhaps you'll really feel like you know me soon and I hope you do. Thank you for reading and I hope you come back to read more.
